We are delighted to announce that the Dancing Flowers of Doe Lea has been shortlisted as a regional finalist in the 2021 Civic Trust Awards. The permanent landmark sculpture is made from bright red curved 114mm diameter steel tubes, with wildflowers painted on the reverse side, it sits as on a traffic island at the entrance to the village. Exploring the idea of lines and using the principles of anamorphic projection, the sculpture plays with artist Paul Klee’s concept of drawing as ‘a line going for a walk’. The design was inspired by the bucolic rolling hills of the historic mining village of Doe Lea.

As part of the award nomination, The Dancing Flowers of Doe Lea will also be considered by the Selwyn Goldsmith Awards Panel which recognises universal design excellence in the built environment. The winner of the Civic Trust Awards will be announced in January 2021, the full list of finalists is available on the CTA website.
