Tonkin Liu at the Summer Exhibition
We are delighted to be at this year’s Summer/Winter Exhibition with two model entries. Due to closure over the summer, this year’s annual exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts was postponed, and is now open from tomorrow, 6th October until the 3rd January 2021.
On display is our scale model of the Rain Domes. The Rain Domes are a a pair of energy-efficient, low-carbon timber building nestled in a dramatic slope through the woods amongst a cluster of giant Rhododendrons. The Rain Domes are a home-studio and library that celebrate the surrounding elements; the unique biometric coffered timber domes have been designed to weave into the exuberant topography, southern light, rain, and blossoms.
Also on display, is the Wall of Energy ceramic tile. The 1:1 sample ceramic tile is a sample of one of 1,300 that form the Tower of Light’s Wall of Energy. Home to the Vital Energi CHP energy centre in Manchester's Civic Quarter. The 40m Tower of Light is a structural skin that supports the energy network’s flues. Each tile is handmade by Darwen Terracotta in Blackburn, Lancashire.
