Mike Tonkin announced as judge for AR House awards 2024

We are pleased to announce that Mike Tonkin, founder of Tonkin Liu, has joined the judging panel for this year’s AR House Awards 2024.

Architectural Review asked Mike five questions to help entrants craft their entry for this year’s AR House awards.

Q. What do you think makes a great home?

Mike: A great home is a great story; it celebrates the changing cycles of the day and seasons by amplifying nature’s gifts, with sun, wind, and rain as elements playing upon our senses. A great home celebrates the chain of ritualised events in people’s lives to create interaction with inhabitants and neighbours. A great home is constructed from a family of parts that facilitate social and environmental inclusion, while each part’s inclusion expresses its role within a whole placemaking story. A great home is a story about nature and people in place.
