Tranquility and the City
No one can argue the temporary calm that befell all cities during lockdown when the continuous noise from road traffic, public transport, factories whirring, and the lights and clamour from cafes and restaurants ceased. The result? City dwellers were appreciating the sounds of nature around them, possibly for the first time.
Tonkin Liu is is supporting artistic collective Walk Listen Create’s online event ‘Seeking Tranquility’ on 24th September. The discussion will focus on the repercussions of the global pandemic and lockdown in terms of tranquility, as they ask the important question, ‘As lockdown eases, and life returns to ‘normal’ how can we seek the tranquility that we all shared?’
This event will be hosted by Ximena Alarcón, a sound artist researcher and ‘deep listening’ practitioner. The discussion will also include different perspectives from landscape architect, Usue Ruiz Arana; composer and digital media artist, Ron Herrema; and Richard Bentley of consultancy Small Silence.
Walk Listen Create collects the publications of artists who walk, and provides a place for walking artists to share their websites, thoughts, pieces and events. Tickets for this event are available to purchase on their website.
