Nature gives us archetypes through which we experience the world. Using the methodology
“Asking Looking Playing Making,” we search for stories that will stay true and be understood
through nature’s universal forms, like the flower, tree, mountain and sea. The story is used
as an enduring conceptual framework. This methodology refines each design so that it can be
experienced and enjoyed, and the story retold.
Nature provides many examples of responsive systems that adapt to changing conditions. We
design integrated systems with overlapping social, structural, and environmental sub-systems.
The system is an overarching diagrammatic framework, enabling each project to develop and
adapt to its complex parameters whilst maintaining clarity.
FAMILY OF PARTS
Nature shows how a family shares similarities but has different attributes. We use families of
similar parts that adapt to different situations, to offer multiplicity within a controlled order.
In this way we can directly reflect complex patterns of activities.
Nature demonstrates awe-inspiring ingenuity through the evolution of form. In the technical
development of projects we always return to first principles. We embrace the power of the
computer and the latest technology to aid the imaginative invention of new fabrication
ECONOMY IS BEAUTY
Nature’s lessons of beauty demonstrate both economy and flamboyance. We believe
sustainability is an expression of design excellence - no wastage, no untapped potentials,
using the least to make the most. We enjoy transforming inexpensive materials through
inventive construction methods.
LIGHT IS DELIGHT
Nature reaffirms our primal attraction to light. Light signifies human gathering, marks the
passage of time, brings inert materials to life. We use light to celebrate the patterns of
everyday human rituals.
